Past Demonstrations
February 2010 - Equine Behaviour
Many thanks to Laurie McGowan who provided a demonstration on Equine
Behaviour at Whitfield Livery on Thursday 25th February.
Laurie has recently qualified after studying Equine Behaviour at
Oatridge College and this was her début as a public speaker on
the subject. Thanks to all who turned out with blankets and hot
water bottles on such a cold night. Members of PDRC and some
friends from SERC endured the cold for a demo which lasted over 2 hours
and quite frankly could have gone on for twice as long. Laurie
covered the basic signs presented by our beloved horses and clarified
some points which we mostly presume to understand, some new information
and some that challenges a few current training methods.
Many thanks to our guinea pigs Jocelyn Gray and Boris for a ridden
demonstration and Helen and Justin MacNeil for letting us “analyse”
their Irish Draughts Rocky and Mack as well as for keeping us warm with
hot drinks and cake. This is a huge subject and we only had time
for a taster but I’ve learnt one thing about animal behaviour – Mack
will do anything for half a grass nut!
We would also like to thank Mr & Mrs Weir of Whitfield Livery for
the use of their indoor school.

April 2009 - How to spot problems with your horse,
correct tack fitting and an introduction to Equine Sports Massage, with
Jenny Alison
A fun evening attended by about 20 interested individuals. Jenny gave
us some basic tuition on Equine anatomy, and explained how various
horse behaviours may be indicative of undiagnosed muscular problems,
how and why tack should be correctly fitted so as to minimise the
chances of such problems, and what to do about it if you suspect there
may be an issue. She also demonstrated Equine Sports Massage on her
"volunteers", Bill and SoSo, who seemed to quite enjoy the demo!
Finally some simple stretching excercises were demonstrated, and Jenny
checked out the posture of a number of those present who suspected they
might be a tad "un-level" themselves! The ticket price included a drink
or two, and a horse massage session was raffled (won by Lynn Miller) in
an attempt to raise some more funds for the club.
Club Training
The committee has designated several people to organise club
training throughout the year in various disciplines (Dressage,
showjumping & cross country) from a number of instructors to allow
you the choice as to who you would like to attend.

contact us by email.
