BHS Safety

BHS Safety Committee

The BHS Scotland safety committee deals with all aspects of horse and rider safety in Scotland. In particular this department aims to reduce the number of road accidents involving horses by educating motorists on how to drive when horses are on the road and teaching riders how to ride safely. The BHS riding and road safety test educates riders in road safety to help minimise the risk involved when riding on the road. Training in road craft is available through our nationwide network of Scottish riding and road safety trainers. The Scottish safety committee also campaigns nationally for the safety of horses and riders on the road and works closely with police, Department of Transport Scottish Road Safety Campaign and other professional bodies to assist our aims. We are also able to advise on safety equipment including hats and body protectors and also supply and advise on reflective/fluorescent gear. At our disposal we have resources, which include lecture material, leaflets, videos and the ability to deliver road safety talks.

If you would like to know more about taking your riding and road safety test, or you have any questions you think we may be able to answer email safety@bhsscotland.org.uk
